CVS and lazy branching

I am wondering if CVS has the concept of lazy 
branching, i.e. branching only on a per-need
basis.

Say I have a directory tree corresponding to a module
with 50 files in it and I only want to branch 5 files.

Can this be done, or do I have to branch the entire
module?
