Use 'verifymsg' http://www.cvshome.org/docs/manual/current/cvs_18.html#SEC168 and 'rcsinfo' http://www.cvshome.org/docs/manual/current/cvs_18.html#SEC174 be advised that for remote operations, the CVS/Template file created by rcsinfo is not refreshed after the original checkout in the cvs 1.11.x releases. The CVS/Template is refreshed on every cvs update if your server is a cvs 1.12.x version.
