[Libcdio-devel] cdparanoia 10.2 and libcdio - GPL2/LGPL vs GPL 3.0

Subject: [Libcdio-devel] cdparanoia 10.2 and libcdio - GPL2/LGPL vs GPL 3.0

Background:
  * cdparanoia 9.8 was licensed under GPL v2;
  * cdparanoia 10.2, the command-line tool is GPL v2 whereas the libraries
are LGPL v2.1.
   * libcdio is currently GPL 3+, ships with cdparanoia libraries and
command-line code based on cdparanoia 9.8

Recently someone has come with a serious proposal to upgrade libcdio's
paranoia code to version 10.2. The question is whether this is legal
keeping libcdio GPL 3+.

Another possibility which in some respects may be an independent question
is to split off libcdio's paranoia code from libcdio. That way licensing
could be independent. It also may be convenient as well.

Comments, thoughts, guidance?
