_LT_TAGVAR and assorted questions

Hello out there,

Could someone please explain to me the variables which have to be used
with _LT_TAGVAR only?  Or at which times _LT_TAGVAR is necessary?
(I also don't really understand the meaning of the arguments to
_LT_DECL and subsequent _LT_TAGDECL -- what does VALUE mean here e.g.?)

I have a feeling there are a lot more places that need _LT_TAGVAR..
