That's even better.  But 1.5.10 and branch-1-5 are not far apart, a
patch against the former is fine for the latter (w.r.t Dragonfly).

Not so quickly. FreeBSD has shlibpath_overrides_runpath set to yes
for versions
   freebsd2* | freebsd3.[01]* | freebsdelf3.[01]*
and set to no otherwise.  AFAICS DragonFly is a fork off FreeBSD-4.x.

A quick glance at online docs could not reveal to me neither which value
was correct for freebsd[45].* (or subranges thereof) nor when they might
have changed the behavior.  Tests would be helpful here as well.
