No.  With this, in any of the three subproject/(non)recursive modes,
one of Makefile.{am,inc} will end up with a newer time stamp (and
Makefile.in won't match Makefile.am's contents).

Oops.  Yes, nice catch.  I'm fast running out of brown paper bags...

Okay, I need to completely rethink how to do this.  Unfortunately,
I'm flat out with other work until 3rd week of December now, so I
may not get to it until then :-(
