Are you sure that you used the same settings in Acrobat. At least in
newer versions of Acrobat, there are options under Preferences to
specify how text should be smoothed on screen. The result may also
depend on your particular version of ps2pdf (or rather of Ghostscript)
which is used to convert the Postscript into PDF.
Also, I hope you use all the dvips flags described at the bottom of
http://lilypond.org/doc/v2.4/Documentation/user/out-www/lilypond/Integrating-LaTeX-and-music.html#Integrating-LaTeX-and-music
if you run dvips manually. Otherwise, you will get bit-mapped fonts
for music and/or text which certainly will look bad in Acrobat.

Hi there,
I noticed that the music symbols in PDF files now look much worse in
Acrobat compared to the Type1 fonts. The curves look jaggy. Am I
correct that the CFF files aren't antialiased/hinted? Is this is a
FontForge, GS, Acrobat or PDF problem?

I've noticed a similar thing with Lily2.4: Acrobat 4 and 6 seem to
display PDFs generated by LilyPond with all the fonts and lines quite
blotchy if the command -Ppdf is included when running dvips. Not
including this command seems to make quite a good result in Acrobat 4
and 6. Acrobat 5 works the other way around., producing good output with
-Ppdf and bad without.
