Just to make things a bit weirder, I have a working copy with

Can anyone shed light on this?
This could be a nasty bug caused by GC interactions. When you do "make web" the file is compiled between 400 others, and memory management errors might trigger some problems. Which version of GUILE do you run?

1.6.7, strangely enough. I could have sworn I got 1.8.0 working... Which
behaviour is the correct one, by the way? They both look acceptable to
me.

The one you get when you run it 'separately' is the good one.

I'll try upgrading to guile 1.8 and see if that makes a difference.
