That's exactly what's done today.

For example, if you look at the page for the DynamicLineSpanner
in the Program Reference, you will find out that the default value
of axes is '(1), the default for Y-offset is ly:side-position-interface::y-aligned-side
and so on.

Just to be perfectly clear, the values from the code automagically "bubble up" and produce the Program Reference. Nothing bubbles up into the user manual.

There's currently a brief explanation of this in "changing defaults". I would love to have more/better explanations of how to use the Program Reference... perhaps after you've finished your opera? ;)
