I translate involved as our historical need for bleeding edge
versions, (sometimes even patched) of flex, ghostscript, guile,
fontconfig etc.

People who can cope with this usually have no problem compiling
lilypond. The trouble starts when people do not succeed, often
after unsuccessfully or partially updating their system with
newer or conflicting versions.

Thanks to Gub, it is often less work for us to bake a binary for them
than to debug their system through an email client. This would not
work for people who want to take part in development, but we expect
those people to be able to cope.

Jan.
