2008/2/4, D. Michael McIntyre:
I thought I'd check in with you and see if you are OK.  We haven't heard from
you in a couple of months, and we hope that isn't because of something we
did.

Hi!

Sorry to have been so quiet, but I have been really busy with in writing PhD.  Nevertheless, I have been following the Rosegarden development.

It's perfectly understandable if you are busy right now, but I would be
greatly relieved if you could check in with a brief status update.  I'm
trying to determine who is here and who isn't for the upcoming 1.7.0 release
that seems not long off now.

I updated the wiki with our current status:

I'm happy you noticed this status page.  It was created in order to justify, whether or not it is time to roll out a new major release.

Latest major release was done in sync with the Ubuntu release schedule [1]:
DebianImportFreeze happened to be December 13th 2007, which was
close to our release time of Rosegarden 1.6. Therefore, Rosegarden 1.6.1
will be included in the forthcoming Ubuntu 8.04 LTS (codename Hardy Heron) [2]. BTW, this should be mentioned also in the Getting page [3].

In order to have the biggest audience for Rosegarden's major releases, I think that it would be nice to release again in sync with Ubuntu release schedule. That would mean to freeze in May and to release in June (i.e. 6 months after Dec 13th 2007) when most probably will be the next DebianImportFreeze of future Ubuntu 8.10 (codename Itchy Iguana?).

Meanwhile, I really would await, for example,
- a revised MusicXML export (not in list [4]), as I can see that this is a work in progress :),
- grace note export fix for LilyPond, so that the grace note fix could be taken into full use,
- more menu icons for menu items, as they look nice and are faster to recognize than menu texts,
- TrackHeader fixes: (1) they could be always shown, even if the clef is visible, (2) the close button seems to be messy,
- documentation revise, more fixes, etc.
