You're right, I mentioned it a week or so back; it's half fixed
(Graham fixed the 'side-axis description).

I sent a patch with a fix for 'direction
(http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/lilypond-devel/2008-05/msg00123.html),
but it's probably been missed because the patch also fixes a nitpick
with 'stencil-align-direction-y.
