We're generally slightly wary of changing the build system because of either 
lack of understanding of some elements of it, or lack of confidence that a 
change won't have adverse consequences.  Do you have facilities to try 
making the change you're proposing and testing a build?  Can you do this and 
if it's OK supply a patch?
