GUB has the problem of being underdocumented and I've never been able to
clear up whether the MacOSX port was kosher or relied on a MacOSX build
environment that was licensed incompatibly with Free Software, so that
one would rather have needed to replace this with something based on
OpenDarwin or similar.

Of course, the technical challenge would likely be similar in regard to
Guix.  It just might be easier to figure out whether somebody already
tackled it...

Of course, GUB currently has the advantage of being in active use, and
the disadvantage of having very few specialists who can fix breakage
with it.
