Sure, sure. In general, SaaS's advantages tend to benefit developers and 
its inconveniences tend to fall on users.

I don't want to speak for Barton too much, but his email pretty clearly 
indicates that he's in a prototyping stage where it's important to get 
the app working quickly. Unless offline functionality is important for 
the demonstration, SaaS is the right way to go since he won't have to do 
any work porting LilyPond.
