Well, there is documentation about music functions in the Notation Reference [1], not just in the Extending Manual. I see a number of people sticking with what the NR calls "substitution functions": myFunc = #(define-music-function (foo) (bar?) #{ Something with #foo in LilyPond syntax ... #}) No Scheme knowledge is required for this.
