No - that's quite difficult. I've fixed the overlap for innerstems, so
you won't see this (except when using large blot diameters.)

My favourite kind! I certainly hope your logic was more than 15 years old...

Doing the entire group of notes is better, but I'd rather not rewrite
that code if it's not necessary; it's sort of hairy.

Not that I'm going to do it, but from what I understand of the way Lilypond is architected, one could conceivably write a module that did the beaming and then call that module (i.e., instead of the built-in one), right?
