Just a quick note to say "Thanks" to whoever's responsible for Lilypond Book. The combination of Lilypond with LaTeX is one of the most impressive tools I've ever used. I wish I'd had this when I was working on my doctoral dissertation in the late 1990s. I love the seamless integration of musical examples, of course, but even LaTeX by itself makes it possible to use musical elements in the body of the text without jacking up the line spacing--real sharp, flat, and natural symbols instead of # and lower-case b, perfect time signatures using the math environment, and numbers with carrots on top of them to indicate scale degrees. It's awesome. Plus it formats everything as a book and creates a .pdf file with embedded bookmarks automagically. Incredible. I'm using it now to write a counterpoint workbook that I will distribute freely under a creative commons license so my students (and those of any other instructor who wants to use it) can avoid paying $50+ for a skimpy workbook published by Prentice-Hall. :( I'll post it online when I'm done and give a heads-up so people can go see it.

Thanks and all best,

Jon
