Hi Matthew,

http://lilypond.org/background.html states, as the very first line summarising the Essay:

We have an extensive essay describing computational aesthetics: the art of creating beauty with a computer.

Newcomers could therefore be forgiven for getting the impression that the foremost emphasis of lilypond is on aesthetics, fine appearance, beautiful detail and not merely notational functionality or the simple goal of just legibility and layout. Isn’t this why the finest examples of the copper engravers art were sought ought out, analysed, and many aspects of the skill and experience of those master engagers embodied in lilypond’s intelligent engine?

And is not Urs’ blog called Scores of Beauty?

Thoroughly in agreement with you Matthew.

Andrew
