Yes. Just install Frescobaldi as you did. As you wrote, you get LilyPond
2.16 with it. But that does not hurt. You can then download
the stable version 2.18.2 from here http://lilypond.org/unix.html
or the dev version 2.19.36 from here http://lilypond.org/development.html
and install it with
sh lilypond-2.19.36-1.linux-*.sh --prefix=/home/$USER/whereever/you/want
Then in Frescobaldi Edit > Settings, LilyPond-Settings you can add the
newly installed version in addition to the probably listed 2.16 version.
You can make it default (on the right) and use 2.18 or 2.19 happily ever
after :)
