TBH, I don't think this is really a question of me being willing to wait 
(the parts I am typesetting are going to be needed in about 1-2 months, 
but of course nothing prohibits recompiling them at a later point of 
time): If it were such an out-of-place need, I think you shouldn't 
bother (Joram's \combined sign being quite a satisfactory replacement), 
but since it is a ornament that is regularly used by a major composer, 
and it has a place in SMuFL, I think Lilypond should have this character 
in the long run, and if my request provided enough momentum and 
motivation for you to get working, I should be happy!

And since you ask: Of course I would be willing to compile my own 
LilyPond, but I must confess I have no idea how hard it is to do so. I 
work on a Linux Mint machine; can one give a reasonable estimate of the 
effort needed to switch to self-compiled?
