[Ltib] Updating to newer version of a package?

Stuart,

I was wondering what your recommendations where on updating a package  
to a newer version?

Do we just move everything to the newer version?  Or somehow provide  
the ability to selection between versions?

I'm looking at updating the following packages:
iptables, openssl, busybox.
