Why don't you set it inside netconn_free ? Simon answers: My idea was to make sure that the pcb is deleted outside the netconn_free function (since it is called from API thread also). Because of that, I included the assert for pcb==NULL to make sure future developers think of freeing the pdb before calling netconn_free (the name doesn't really tell that the pcb is not freed).
