In fact, I don't know where the problem is.  I've spent several hours recently, fiddling with locale, ibus, m17n, etc., and I simply can't find where the "US English" keyboard superimposition is coming from.  It isn't there in the (default) UK keyboard, but I can't find where the system is reading my UK keyboard either. It isn't an m17n map file.  I've also tried various changes to the dconf settings for /desktop/ibus, but no luck.

My best guess is that the issue is with Ibus.

I have not yet read the above page.  Do you mean that the
problem is not in the m17n-lib?
