Dear Graydon,

My original question was very simple: how you specify what "treat by a
sequence of lines" means? Does it mean converting all weird combinations
of CR and LF into line-ending or just convert "native line ending" into
line-ending?

In other words would you treat CR as line-ending on Unices and convert
it to LF or not? You choose of course but in my opinion CR's shouldn't
be touched (not only this is easier to explain to people but also it's
more of a "simplicity-loving compromiser").

And I think everyone agrees on binary/text stuff (attributes OK, project
policy BETTER).

Cheers,
