These failures are resolved by d48e3cacdd201c5378ccd71a882c68fadcc28e23
(tester.cc fix) and aded0fbffc3ea081588e26085c2d3d0e23e60498 (testsuite
fixups).  These changes were made against HEAD, not e90ed0.. because I
forgot to back up to e90ed0 before I made the first commit, so they'll need
to be plucked onto the release candidate line of development.
