Hello, 

Building glibc static binaries is an uphill battle.. And I haven't tested the
internationalization of the binary (beyond what the testsuite does) 

I suspect the glibc iconv code, but I'm unsure. Can you post/attach/email me a
file that reliably fails commit, as well as a dump of the relevant environment
variables?
