Thanks for the info. As for libtinfo, no, mine is newer. When I run
the same commands you do, I get:

$ locate libtinfo | grep ^/lib
/lib64/libtinfo.so.6
/lib64/libtinfo.so.6.1

$ locate libncurses | grep ^/lib
/lib64/libncurses.so.6.1
/lib64/libncursesw.so.6.1
/lib64/libncurses.so.6
/lib64/libncurses.so.5
/lib64/libncursesw.so.5
/lib64/libncursesw.so.6
/lib64/libncursesw.so.5.9
/lib64/libncurses.so.5.9

[ncurses 5 and 6 are both installed on my system because if I didn't
keep the ncurses 5 libraries around, I'd have to recompile many more
things. As it is, everything I newly compile is linked against ncurses
6, including nano. In this case, `which nano` is git f598a4f1, in
/usr/local/bin/. Maybe that's affecting something, but since I
installed ncurses 6 over ncurses 5, 6's terminfo stuff should be what's
running. Comparing our xterm-256color entries, The only difference
besides the order of some of the sequences is the value of kbs.]
