Follow-up Comment #11, bug #40469 (project octave): Ben's changeset was fixing the fact that the menu was not being displayed. The menubar is 40 pixels so that would account for the difference in figure sizes. It still doesn't much explain why there is a crash. The previous experiments showed that creating a figure and clearing it were not a problem. It was only when an axes object was added that the problem appeared. I think we do need a backtrace so I would re-compile with '-g -O0'. Try running 'gdb octave-cli.exe' to avoid the wrapper executable.
