Follow-up Comment #2, bug #45548 (project octave): Yes even a simple "plot(1:10)" or "figure; plot(1:10);" right after starting Octave gives the same problem. The reason I switched to using gnuplot was that when using "print" to create files from my plots I was getting bugs like data points and text in legends disappearing. Sorry I am not able to try octave4.0 yet as it is not available through my package handling system.
