Update of bug #49682 (project octave):

                Severity:              3 - Normal => 2 - Minor
                Priority:              5 - Normal => 3 - Low
                  Status:                    None => Confirmed
                 Release:                   4.0.0 => dev
                 Summary: File lost during Save As => File can be lost during
Save As due to conflicting dialogs

Follow-up Comment #1:

I can confirm this slightly confusing dialog behavior on Debian. Deleting the
file in the "Save As" dialog does pop up another dialog on top asking whether
the file being edited should be saved or closed. Clicking on "Close" does
dismiss the dialog, as well as the "Save As" dialog, and the open tab in the
editor.

This is the same dialog that appears if an open file is deleted in the "File
Browser" pane, with the same behavior.

I think maybe we could temporarily disable the file_has_changed slot in the
editor tab while the save_file_as action is being performed, that might help
with some of the dialogs on top of dialogs going on here.

That might also have other unintended consequences if the user cancels the
"Save As" for example, now the editor is left with an open file that it may
think it saved but no longer exists.

OP - any suggestions about what interactions you think might make this
clearer?
