Follow-up Comment #19:

So this is still a problem.  Adding 'x' to the stable version isn't going to
work for Windows machines.  Could try the second solution suggested in comment
#15 of changing the registry key value to Octave-$OCTAVE_VERSION.

Changing the Status back to "In Progress".
