The example of Comment #16 isn't failing for me:


@linux ~/octave/bug/54572 $ gcc -O2 -std=c++11 int-overflow-2.cc -lstdc++

-9223372036854775808 + -2
u: 9223372036854775806
ux: -2
uy: -9223372036854775808
(ux & uy) < 0:
(~u): -9223372036854775807
__signbit (~u): 1
u: -9223372036854775808
-9223372036854775808


What compiler command are you using?  What output are you seeing when it
fails?
