Follow-up Comment #6, bug #52414 (project octave):

Currently, with both 5.0 and dev, LLVM 3.8 is the only version that you can
use.

With the patches from https://savannah.gnu.org/patch/?9741 applied, you can
also build 3.7, 3.9 and 4.0, but the unit tests crash Octave in 3.7 and 4.0
(not 3.9).  I haven't investigated why.
