Follow-up Comment #54, bug #52475 (project octave):

It's starting to look to me like the only realistic way to solve this is to
completely overhaul how Octave looks for and includes the SuiteSparse header
files to make it compatible with sundials. IMHO this is too big a change to
make right before the Octave 5 release.

It's too bad these scientific libraries can't be convinced to register
themselves with pkg-config.
