Follow-up Comment #9, bug #35910 (project octave):

Thanks for the info. I wasn't aware that this was hidden behind a compile time
switch.

Is mentioning this in the NEWS file enough? Or should we also include a test
in configure?

Or should we make the whole UTF-8 support for regexp optional?
