Follow-up Comment #42, bug #51632 (project octave): Also on a more general note: I don't think that we should rely on the short file names to fix bugs at all. Support for short file names is optional for NTFS. Indeed, I had to attach an external NTFS volume for testing because the file systems on my internal volumes don't seem to store short file names. Windows 10 came pre-installed.
