Follow-up Comment #52, bug #51632 (project octave): Imho, it would probably be best to open a dedicated bug report for the short file names vs. long file names issue and not re-purpose one of the existing bugs. I was referring to the "canonicalize_file_name" usages in the patch for this bug here.
