Follow-up Comment #1:

I fixed this on the stable branch here:
https://hg.savannah.gnu.org/hgweb/octave/rev/3faa700d64d4.  This will be a
part of the 6.1 release.  Unfortunately, release date of 6.1 is uncertain
given covid-19 pandemic.  In any case, you could always copy the file
inputParser.m from the Octave Mercurial repository to your own computer to see
the fix.
