Follow-up Comment #23, bug #52840 (project octave):
Andrew, is the native file dialog involved here? I have realized that the
related GUI settings actually has an impact on the CLI behavior when calling
uiputfile(). Could you test again with "Native file dialogs" disabled?
If you can not use the GUI itself for changing the preferences, add or update
the following pref in the [General] section:
use_native_file_dialogs=false
