Follow-up Comment #25, bug #52840 (project octave):
On a Linux machine, the locations depending on the version are:
# new location:
$HOME/.config/octave/octave-gui.ini
# old location:
$HOME/.config/octave/qt-settings
I am not 100% sure, but it should be the same on Mac.
