Follow-up Comment #2, bug #59370 (project octave):

The OpenGL toolkits (fltk and qt) use single precision, that's why your plots
look wrong and I think also why they behave unpredictably.

There are several bug reports about this on the tracker, see e.g.,

In one of the bug reports there is a trick about pre-scaling the data.
