With 6.0.93 I cannot reproduce the crash anymore, nor with dev octave. At the
end of the scripts I see a nice plot.

All I did in the mean time was reinstall the io package to the one on the OF
website:
pkg install -verbose -global -forge io

Together with the error I saw (see comment #1; related to control package) it
would make one believe I had an incomplete or borked octave_packages file
affecting the control package; AFAIK that file is cooked up in mxe-octave
these days.

I also had trouble with the 'pkg rebuild' command - it just wouldn't work on
its own, only installing a package worked to create a fresh global
octave_packages file. But I suppose that is anecdotical and maybe/probably a
local issue.
FTR I have all my Octave installations in
C:\Programs\Octave\
rather than 
C:\Program Files\GNU Octave\
(a.o., to avoid write permission issues when editing .m files in the global
packages store.)
