URL: <https://savannah.gnu.org/bugs/?59702> Summary: Octave 6 slower then Octave 5 ? Project: GNU Octave Submitted by: charprap Submitted on: Wed 16 Dec 2020 01:07:59 PM UTC Category: None Severity: 3 - Normal Priority: 5 - Normal Item Group: Performance Status: None Assigned to: None Originator Name: Charles Praplan Originator Email: Open/Closed: Open Release: 6.1.0 Discussion Lock: Any Operating System: Microsoft Windows _______________________________________________________ Details: I have noticed that Octave 6.1.0 seems to be slower than Octave 5.2.0. This is already visible at startup when loading the prolog, but this is not the issue. Here is another example using dlmread. Below is a summary of the time needed to read the appended data file (from a SSD drive) with the appended script. Small data file Large data file (100x) (appended) octave 5.2.0 : 0.502303 seconds 49.4749 seconds octave 6.1.0 : 1.99895 seconds 213.084 seconds matlab 2019a : 0.104778 seconds 4.539602 seconds There is factor 4 between version 5 and 6! Can somebody explain this? _______________________________________________________ File Attachments: ------------------------------------------------------- Date: Wed 16 Dec 2020 01:07:59 PM UTC Name: data_2n_part_50ksamp.csv Size: 1MiB By: charprap <http://savannah.gnu.org/bugs/download.php?file_id=50488> ------------------------------------------------------- Date: Wed 16 Dec 2020 01:07:59 PM UTC Name: V6_slower_than_V5_dlmread_test_case.m Size: 157B By: charprap <http://savannah.gnu.org/bugs/download.php?file_id=50489> _______________________________________________________ Reply to this item at: <https://savannah.gnu.org/bugs/?59702> _______________________________________________ Message sent via Savannah https://savannah.gnu.org/
