Follow-up Comment #13, bug #59546 (project octave):

@Markus: Indeed the gh_manager looks like a good candidate for storing cached
data, but I still didn't get a chance to try and tackle this issue properly
and currently left it as a FIXME. 
Note that the ft_manager singleton object, which manages already loaded font
faces, is equivalently unsafe (global and non-thread safe) and will have to be
taken care as well. Just to say that this is a pretty big change... Could we
envisage this as a second step, after the new interpreter has been integrated
and eventually tested on other platforms?

As for the ever growing cache, I'll have a look, but this could take some
time. Limiting the cache to a fixed maximum number of elements by using a
specialized class is probably enough.
