Yes, the null string is supposed to equate to "install this in the root
directory".

Well I'm running into this now, because this is exactly how snapcraft builds
snap applications. 😅

I didn't see these errors when I first snapped Octave 5.2, but now I started
seeing them with 6.2 and with the default branch.
