Follow-up Comment #6, bug #60722 (project octave):
Another Octave developer (Philip) used to run Neon and has had multiple issues
with the GUI, KDE, etc. I think they eventually gave up and switched
distributions because of strange behavior that could never properly be
diagnosed.
That may be an overly pessimistic summary, but it might be that this is a
battle you don't want to take on.
