Oops, I pushed the wrong button.

@Torsten: Thanks.  I also pushed the following change:

Saving and restoring settings seems to work much better now.  But I am curious
to know why we don't just save settings from the destructors of these
objects?

Also, marking as ready for test.  Is the original problem of deleting
temporary files solved?
