Follow-up Comment #10, bug #61750 (project octave):

just to complete the discussion - 

re: the code snippet in comment #6, that is only for the 'rows' codepath.  the
non-rows codeset calls lookup which doesn't take a first or last argement, and
always returns last. so there'll have to be some changes to how data is sent
to lookup instead (which is what Rik said he was reluctant to do in his
comment on the other report)
