Follow-up Comment #7, bug #60364 (project octave):

@mleitner: I'm perfectly OK with my technique being replaced by a faster
algorithm but it does need to pass the BISTs. If the only thing failing the
BISTs is the order of the output, the BIST in question can be edited to match
the sequence, or the BIST can use sortrows if needed. Could you work that in
and also recover the performance of the plain perms without the call to
unique?
